You will find Killeshin Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers nestled in
the hills between Newry and Dundalk, in an area known as “ Land of Legends.” It is here that St Brigid lived, where Cuchulainn fought his friend Ferdia and later died, and where Meave, Queen of Connaught launched her raid to capture the Brown Bull of Cooley and later, where Edward The Bruce, brother of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland is buried c1318. Perhaps that’s why our dogs have that mysterious spark.

The history of the Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier has been somewhat obscured by its closeness to the other Irish Terrier breeds.
The Wheaten is probably the oldest of the four breeds. Its existence for at least 200 years can be inferred from textual references to "soft-coated" dogs. So the humble Wheaten probably has a fairly mixed ancestry. Despite the long history of the Wheaten, it wasn't until 1937, that the Soft Coated Wheaten was officially recognised by the Irish Kennel Club.
The breed has grown steadily in popularity since and is now well known world-wide. A true Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is a hardy, active, short coupled dog, well built, giving the idea of strength. Not too leggy nor too low to the ground. He is spirited and game and always good tempered. He is affectionate and loyal to his owners with a natural affinity towards children. Most intelligent. A trusty, faithful friend, who is defensive without aggression. Killeshin Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers are bred primarily to be healthy happy dogs. When they make it in the Show Ring either here, in Ireland or in other countries, it is ‘the icing on the cake.’ Our dogs are health tested, and are bred from 100% Irish lines with the correct Irish coat
